 Subject: Re: Prince/Sellers

 Hello Cousin Carole,

Your GGGrandfather Conrad (aka Coonrod) and my GGGGrandfather Henry
Sellers
were brothers.  I have some of my information on Family Tree Maker but it
needs some fine tuning.  I hope to have it cleared up in the next week or
so.  I would be happy to share.  I also have some family history
information
passed on through the generations.   Unfortunately, I believe some
relatives
had limited writing abilities or were were illiterate.  By the time my
Grandmother O'Brien wrote it down on paper there were gaps and holes left
to
 be filled.

I live in Mercer Island in Washington State.  My father and mother live
in
Fulton County and Cobb County, Georgia.  My Grandmother Maude Christine
Sellers O'Brien lived and is buried in Spartanburg.  Her father William
Powell Sellers was born in Seneca, SC.  His father John Powell Sellers
was
born in Habersham County, Ga where his father Henry Sellers married
Rebecca
 Prince.

I also have family in Greenville.  Small world...

I would love to visit your MyFamily.com web site.

Written by Christine Maude Sellers (1912-1990) of SC, she was the daughter
of Wm. Powell Sellers/Fannie Young, granddaughter of John Powell
Sellers/Rosa Belle Manis, Ggranddaughter of Henry Sellers/Rebecca Prince
and GGgrandaughter of James Prince.
--------------------------------
Prince History

Captain Asa Prince of Massachusetts, Captain Sylvanus Prince of Virginia,
and Captain Lt. Thomas Prince and Captain Frank Prince of South Carolina
fought in the war.  The given names of their sons were: John, Richard,
Thomas, Isaac, Joseph, Job, Nathan, Benjamin, Samuel, James and Robert.

Evidently, Frank or Thomas was our great grandfather.  And which ever he
was, his sons were James (our grandfather) and Uncle Joseph Prince.

James Prince was born in 1781 and died Nov 1863 and he was 82 years old.
His wife was born in 1789 and died November 12, 1876.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Thank you,
Lori

My branch of the family went to east from GA (back) into SC.  John Powell
Sellers, Henry's son, was a railroad man and settled on Wofford St. in
Spartanburg.  Some of his children were born in Seneca others in
Spartanburg.  I don't have census info on them because I had most of the
info I needed from first hand or very reliable second hand sources, I know
bunches about them.  I believe Lynn Hicks Sellers may be one of William
Powell Sellers' sons relations.  I've attached my family line through my
grandmother.  I haven't received permission to post my living relations but
if any one has any questions I would be happy to help.  Let me know.  -

Notes for James Leonard Sellers:
Martha Ann King Kent, a descendant of James Leonard Sellers told this
story,
March 1, 2000:
"James Leonard Sellers died a young man.  He was on a wagon and a bridge
fell in.  He jumped into the water to save the horses and wagon, took
pneumonia and died shortly thereafter.  His wife had to petition the court
for her minor children as their guardian.  She was also raising her
granddaughter, Lillie Funk when she died.  Lillie's mother had died and her
father decided to take Lillie away with him.  She didn't know him and
wanted
my grandfather to take her away.  He and his sister, Nancy Jenia, left the
area and went to Arkansas.  He lived there several years and got a letter
from a cousin in Haywood County, so they moved to Cruso, North Carolina,
where he met and married my grandmother.  He remained there until he died.
Lillie met grandmother's brother, Lonnie Cogburn and they married... So,
Lillie is both a cousin and an Aunt.  She is still living at age 105 years
old.  She can't see or hear, but otherwise in good health, a real cutie."

Article from Spartanburg Journal
dated June 15th 1911

DEAD BODY THAT OF JOHN SELLERS
Identification Established by Clothes He Wore

That the mangled body of a dead man found on the tracks of the southern
Railway near King's Mountain last Sunday morning was that of John Sellars
of
this city has been defininately established.  The body will be brought to
Spartanburg for burial.  I dentification was established when the clothes
were sent to Mrs. Sellars of this city who stated that they were those of
her son.

Sellers disappeared from his home at Woffard Street last Saturday morning.
When his mother read in Monday's Journal that the dead body of an unknown
white man had been found on the railroad track near King's Mountain her
fears were aroused, believing that it might be that of her son, for she had
heard nothing from him since he went away from home without telling her
good
bye.  As the days went by and no messages came from her son, she became
more
aprehensive and yesterday she sought the aid of the Journal in a effort to
obtain information concerning the whereabouts of her son.

The publication in Wednesday's Journal that Mrs. Sellers believed that the
body of the unknown dead man who was killed by a Southern Train was that of
her son, caused Policeman Deason, a brother in law of Sellers, to go to
King's Mountain and make an investigation.  The identity of the body was
established.   When Mr. Deason was satisfied that the body was that of John
Sellers, arrangements were made to bring the remains to Spartanburg for
interment.

John Sellars, was a painter and blacksmith.  For several months he had been
painting for H. M. Gaines, but on Saturday, arranged to go to work in a
blacksmith shop on Broad Street on Monday morning. *
