Confederate Prisioners
Sketched by Alfred R Waud, special correspondent to Harper's Weekly. Confederate prisoners trudge away from Gettysburg as they begin the long journey to prison camps such as Johnson's Island in lake Erie and Old Point Comfort in Maryland. Many of the 12,000 or so prisoners taken at Gettysburg were not freed until the winter of 1865.
