This is the last letter Granny ((Sarah Jeanetta McKinney Cash) wrote me (Winnie Inez Robbins Sellars). Transcribed by Barbara Sellars Davis.

Dec.1, 1924

Cowpens, SC

Rt. 1 Box 106

Dear Winnie and all,

Am wondering how you are, it seems like ages since I heard form you. Winnie don’t wait every time for me to write. I have been in bed ever since I got your letter. Just kept thinking I would be better able to sit up and write – not so – am just propped up trying to write. I know you are tired of this old grunt but I can’t help it. Just like an old wore out clock or something, ready to stop any time. I haven’t seen or heard from Stella since she came home. Edith sent me word she was coming yesterday but did not .Herman & Lillian came. Winnie from the way the wind feels you must be eating ice cream. Cleo is trying to sew but don’t get much done. She has so much else to do. Guy’s working at the carpenters trade $3.50 cents per day. Three of the children go to school. Winnie I know you would not like a name I would send …. Why not Alton?*.

Mae McKinney and Rufus Bishop was married Friday.

Take good care of yourself and babies and come when you can. I would like very much to see you all. Yes, you must remember Lela. Give her my best regards.

Let me hear from you soon.

Lovingly,

Grannie Cash

* Mama (Winnie) had asked her about a name before E.C. was born.
